Hello there 🙂
The world has been moving into online sales for a while now. A great success story is Amazon, which led to the emergence of a whole new way of selling goods & services. This has also led to growth in delivery services, I mean drones are being used now – which are linked to the growth in aviation and artificial intelligence. So as you can see, its a whole chain of growth in various sectors, courtesy of change on how we look at sales. Lets take a step back…
E-commerce means the selling of goods and services via the internet. Simple right! Well, that depends on how you look at it. The complexity varies from selling your goods on lets say WhatsApp – yes that’s also ecommerce, afterall you need the internet – to having a fully designed website or mobile app that can take orders and give feedback. The history of E-Commerce dates back to the 70s, which was courtesy of Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) that paved the way for modern ecommerce store. Furthermore the World Wide Web was made public in 1991, it revolutionized the tech world completely – from how we shared information, to accessing it and now storage. Amazing right!
These days selling goods & services via our social media platforms has become the norm . In Africa, however, it has taken a while to take root since both devices and internet services have not been quite accessible in the past. This created a new niche, leading to cheaper devices thus many more people having access to the internet. The result being easier communication thus making business transactions via the internet possible.
E-Commerce has been a source of revenue for many households and it will keep improving livelihoods many years to come. The impact has been remarkable, from sales – marketing – delivery – feedback – reporting – management decisions – production lines and so much more. Mind you, this is based on the sales perspective only.
My question to you, do you think eventually all business transactions will run via the internet?
Anyway I got to go, see you on the next blog as we talk about the future of Tech. Cheers!
